Location of Holden Beach

Holden Beach is a barrier island between Myrtle Beach and Wilmington. The island is accessible by a single bridge, which adds to its peaceful and secluded atmosphere. It is also the location of one of North Carolina's important sea turtle nesting sites. Loggerhead sea turtles, as well as other species like green and leatherback turtles, come ashore to lay their eggs during the nesting season (which is from May through August). Conservation efforts are in place to protect these endangered creatures, and residents and vacationers on the island can enjoy viewing them from a safe distance.

Things to Do in Holden Beach

Holden Beach is popular among fishing enthusiasts. Visitors and residents can fish from the beach, piers, or charter boats and Holden Beach Fishing Pier is a well-known spot for both fishing and sightseeing.

In addition to swimming and fishing, you can enjoy various water sports like kayaking, paddle boarding, and boating. The Intracoastal Waterway, which runs along the mainland side of the island, is perfect for these activities.

The island hosts several annual events and festivals, including the Days at the Dock Festival, which celebrates the local maritime heritage and includes food vendors, live music, and arts and crafts.

Holden Beach is a small island, but it still has wonderful dining options to choose from, like Provision Company, a casual waterfront restaurant is known for its fresh seafood, including shrimp, crab, and oysters. Another wonderful choice is Pelican's Perch Bar & Grill. Located at the Holden Beach Pier, they offer seafood, sandwiches, and a relaxed atmosphere right on the beach. To satisfy your sweet tooth, check out Beaches-N-Cream, an ice cream parlor and soda fountain that offers a variety of ice cream flavors and nostalgic treats.

Schools in Holden Beach

Holden Beach is a relatively small barrier island community, and it does not have its own public schools. Instead, students in the Holden Beach area typically attend schools in the Brunswick County School District, which serves the broader Brunswick County region. There are also a variety of private schools in the area.

Holden Beach Real Estate

Holden Beach is known for its beautiful beachfront properties and coastal real estate market. You will find a variety of real estate options, including single-family homes, beachfront cottages, condominiums, and vacant lots.
